Mimi and the kittens

History: This is Mimi. She and her litter of four kittens were found malnourished and dehydrated by a Highway 24 client. Brought to us for care, it became immediately obvious that Mimi was unable to provide enough milk to sustain the kittens, and that they would have to be bottle fed.

The Highway 24 Vet Clinic called on Marita Campbell, an experienced kitten foster parent who has hand raised dozens of litters of kittens, for the humane society, and for our clinic. She naturally and graciously stepped up to the plate and took on the four little babies.

When Mimi first arrived, she was in serious condition. Her liver values were elevated and she was dehydrated and very thin, likely due to the stress her body endured attempting to raise her kittens in the heat of August. With some hard work from the staff at the Highway 24 Vet Clinic and a lot of TLC, Mimi has now recovered and was recently spayed. Due to a previous injury, one of her eyes had to be removed, but it hasn't slowed down her recovery.
Mimi is slowly beginning to explore the clinic, though she would much prefer to be in a quiet, loving home. She has been exposed to other cats and to dogs and although she hasn't bonded to any other fur-kids in particular, she and our clinic dog, Dexter, live in amicable indifference to one another.
If you are looking for a loving, sweet little lap cat to add to your family, please contact the Highway 24 Vet Clinic.

History: What a summer it's been here at the Highway 24 Vet Clinic! Just a few days after Mimi and her kittens arrived, the team and Highway 24 took in another litter of orphaned kittens! These sweet little fur babies were found by a member of the public after their mother was hit by a car and died. Just under a week old when they came to us, they were hungry, dehydrated, and in desperate need of round-the-clock care!
Showing the team work that the staff here is known for, the kittens spent the first weekend, the Civic Holiday weekend, with our receptionist, Allison. With the help of her trusty dog, Obi, Allison was awake every 3-4 hours for feedings, cleanings, and cuddles.
After gaining several ounces each over the weekend, the kittens then went to be cared for by our kennel attendant Cassandra, Keeping meticulous records helped the team ensure that the kittens were eating well and gaining weight! During their stay with Cassandra, the kittens opened their eyes and ears, began grooming themselves, and started to clumsily play!
Next the kittens were on to Kayleigh, who, with the help of her sweet golden retrievers, managed to finish up their time in "foster" with a lesson in socializing with dogs. The kittens continued to blossom under her care and were ready to spend a few days at the clinic preparing for their new homes!
Staff members Julie, one of our RVT's and Angela Forsyth, one of the veterinarians here, adopted the two boys, named Charlie and Conrad. Two clients, and friends of Dr. Mary Thompson adopted the two little girls, now named Summer and Evie. Everyone has settled nicely into their new homes, and their sleep-deprived new parents report that they are all doing very well!
